Ever wondered where Summerland earned It’s alluring title?

Spiritualism has long been at the heart of Summerland’s rich history.

Beginning in the mid-1800s, spiritualists and mediums gathered in the center of town, at what was once known as Liberty Hall, to conduct group séances. The small community was given its inspiring name to symbolize the imagined location of the afterlife.

Soon later, Henry Lafayette Williams, founder of Summerland, former paymaster general of the Union Army, and owner of the Ortega Rancho, addressed a public letter to announce that his ranch and its resources would be made available as a place for spiritualists to call home.
