Lutah Maria Riggs
Les Chenes
Lutah Maria Riggs (1896-1984) was Santa Barbara’s first licensed female architect and the first woman in California to be named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Riggs’ career had great breadth and spanned both notable residential and commercial works. Her legacy is seen throughout Montecito and Santa Barbara in places like the Lobero Theater, Vedanta Temple, and the Botanic Garden. Riggs continued to practice architecture until the age of 84 before eventually retiring in her beloved hometown of Montecito.
Riskin Partners proudly represents one of Riggs’ most beautiful residential creations: Les Chenes
Les Chenes, French for The Oaks, was named for its incredible setting among a grove of ancient California live oaks. Though the property has been renovated to accommodate a modern lifestyle, Riggs’ timeless vision continues to define this landmark estate.
